7/13/2017:  World War I reenactors,  an invitation to march in the Calumet City, Illinois Liberty Parade, to be held on Monday, September 4 (Labor Day).  This year’s parade commemorates the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into the First World War, so obviously we would love for reenactment groups to take part.  There is no fee to participate in the parade.  Email is This email address is being protected from spambots. 4/12/2017:  This has come in for the LHRA.  If your interesed, please email me for more details.  Only US reenactors of course.

On behalf of the American Veterans Center, we would cordially like to invite the Living History Reenactment Association to participate in the 2017 National Memorial Day Parade, taking place Monday, May 29 here in Washington.

The AVC is the primary organizer of the parade, now entering its 13th year. It is now the largest Memorial Day event in the nation with more than 250,000 attendees and a national television broadcast (the 2017 television partner is currently being set) along with a broadcast to our troops serving around the world on DoD News and American Forces Network. It has become a fantastic salute to our military men and women, and particularly our fallen heroes, from across the generations.

The National Memorial Day Parade is a moving timeline of American military history, recognizing the service and sacrifice of Americans from the Revolution to present day service members who have answered the call to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq. The parade features more than 4,000 participants, with more than 1,000 active duty military personnel, senior military officials, and decorated & acclaimed veterans.  Any groups from the Revolution, 1812, Spanish American War, or WWI would be wonderful additions to the parade. You can view a one minute highlight trailer here:

The Grand Marshal of the 2017 National Memorial Day Parade will be acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, recognized for his unparalleled contribution to sharing the stories of our shared American history.

Additionally, extra emphasis this year will be focused on several major anniversaries, which will be commemorated throughout the 2017 National Memorial Day Parade:

- The 75th Anniversary of World War II, featuring dozens of surviving veterans of the war;

- The 70th Anniversary of the United States Air Force;
- The continuing 50th Anniversary of Vietnam, coinciding with the upcoming release of Ken Burns' new documentary series on the Vietnam War;
-  A very special final salute to those who have served and sacrificed throughout our history, featuring upward of 1,000 uniformed personnel.
